Pajamas Project
Ongoing since 2009Inspired by Chinese urban sub culture, where many people wear pajamas in the streets due to a misinterpretation of western cultural influence, I've been making a pajama-clad figure confronting with an empty city, participating in a virtual world, penetrating through secularities.
For me, this project is associated with Jean-Paul Sartre's notion of existentialism in which man is thrown into the world yet condemned to be free. My works often talk about the struggle embedded in the individual's negotiation of such obligatory freedom, as well as the conflict between the rules of existing cultures and the individual's volition.
